Political efforts forge ahead over Libya crisis
More international manoeuvers unfolded Thursday to seek an early
end to the fighting and turmoil in Libya, while NATO said its
intervention has garnered additional support.UN Secretary-General Ban
Ki-moon discussed the current situation in the volatile North African
country over phone with Libyan Prime Minister Al Baghdadi Ali
Al-Mahmoudi."They discussed the urgent need to find a way out of the
current fighting and alleviate the dire humanitarian situation," said
Ban's spokesman, adding that the two also talked about how to work out
a transition that could bring peace to all Libyans.
Ban urged support for UN Special Envoy for Libya Abdul Ilah
Al-Khatib.The Libyan prime minister agreed to Ban's suggestion that
Al-Khatib be received in Tripoli at an early date for urgent
consultations, said the United Nations.Portable Multi Function Media Player

Poll Shows NJ Support of Red Light Cameras
The National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR) recently released
results from a research poll that indicate New Jerseyans are in favor
of red light cameras as a means to increase safety.Meanwhile,
Morristown is currently next-in-line for State Department of
Transportation inclusion in implementation of red light safety cameras
here. The poll, released July 6, found that 77 percent back the use of
cameras at busy intersections in New Jersey, with 43 percent saying
they ¡°strongly support¡± the cameras.
Among the 600 people polled for the study, 56 percent report they

New Jersey is operating under a five-year pilot program for red
light cameras. Seventeen municipalities currently use this technology:
Brick, East Brunswick, New Brunswick, Edison, Woodbridge in Middlesex
County; Linden and Roselle Park in Union County; Deptford, Monroe and
Glassboro in Gloucester County; Stratford, Gloucester Township and
Cherry Hill in Camden County; Wayne in Passaic County; Jersey City in
Hudson County; Palisades Park in Bergen County and Newark in Essex

the lights at intersections selected following a study, at no cost to
the town; ATS would recoup its costs over a period of time through
tickets issued by the town for traffic violations. The State DOT must
also approve any intersections selected for the red light cameras
before work proceeds.
Family ties between cameras and court
Anti-red-light camera leader Paul Kubosh has consistently
propagated the theory that the city tanked its lawsuit against American
Traffic Solutions so that Mayor Annise Parker could say a court
compelled her to turn the cameras back on.
And it started by picking a court friendly to ATS, Kubosh says. How
friendly? The city filed its suit in a court where one of the judges is
the father of the general counsel for ATS. Judge David Hittner of the

Houston Division, is not involved in City of Houston v. American
Traffic Solutions. Judge Lynn Hughes is presiding over the case. But
Kubosh sees the father-son connection as further evidence supporting
his belief that the city wanted to lose the suit to get out of its
contract with ATS so it could keep raking in the millions it receives
from red-light runners.
City Attorney David Feldman denies, of course, that he was looking
for a court to lose in and that the Hittners had anything to do with
Hughes¡¯s ruling.
¡°To suggest that any federal judge in this district would possibly
be influenced by the fact that the general counsel of one of the
parties happened to have been the son of another judge on the bench,
that¡¯s ludicrous,¡± Feldman said.
Feldman said he picked the court for two reasons. First, he wanted
to depoliticize the suit. State judges stand for election, so

political ramifications for anyone who hands down such a

Can Burke save world and Leafs ?
Burke hit the ground running in November of 2008, determined to
restore the Leafs¡¯ faltering reputation on the ice. And part of his
plan was an image makeover for a logo that had come to be loathed in
many quarters for a widely perceived goal of putting dollar signs ahead
of all else.
Until Burke arrived, the highbrow management of Maple Leaf Sports
and Entertainment wasn¡¯t concerned with a lightning rod for the hockey
team. But as MLSE¡¯s premier property, and more importantly, a public
trust for four generations of fans, there had to be a face to the
franchise, in good times and bad.
Pat Quinn was a long-time general manager, but concerned with
nothing beyond the 200 by 85 feet of the rink. Ken Dryden was club
president for a time, but lacked street smarts. Richard Peddie was CEO
and a well-qualified businessman who made MLSE millions, but was
ill-equipped to make hockey-related decisions.
Enter Burke,Japanese optical glass-maker Hoya said on Friday it would sell its Pentax toilet hidden camera

and candlestick maker from his past as a player, sports agent, TV
analyst and NHL exec. Under him, Toronto¡¯s front office, coaching
staff and scouting department bred like rabbits and the team also
christened a multi-million dollar practice rink. Burke has blown up the
roster the past couple of years, to the point of dumping his own
players and has now started hacking Ron Wilson¡¯s coaching staff.
Burke runs the public and media relations staff as hard as the
hockey team. One day he¡¯s giving blood at the ACC donor¡¯s clinic,A

Go green, Cool Green

terawatts (1.504¡Á1013 W) of energy per year. Wasting electricity
contributes to the intimidating greenhouse effect, as fossil fuels, the
main source of electricity gives off carbon dioxide.
What a number of organizations are proposing is that we go green,
not only in terms of ecological conservation but also with the
buildings as 40 percent of energy consumption is eaten up by these
structures. There are now green buildings which have been designed with
cost-effective and ecologically-aware resources, thus making a positive
effect on the environment.
One of the means utilized by these green buildings is energy
efficient cooling systems like those presented by Concepcion-Carrier in
the market today.Japanese optical glass-maker Hoya said on Friday it

Concepcion Carrier calls these the green cooling solutions, the Carrier

Toshiba-Carrier SMMSi. These products effectively lower electricity
consumption.
¡°We know that air-conditioning and refrigerating systems require
energy. We offer an industry leading energy-sufficient-solution
products and services to our customers. Solutions that our customers
could bring help in the environment as well as reduce electrical

Concepcion Carrier Air Conditioning.
The Carrier XPower Inverter, uses an non-ozone depleting,
chlorine-free R-410a refrigerant and saves up to 53 percent more
electricity versus other leading inverters. The Carrier Evergreen 23XRV
is the world¡¯s first integrated variable-speed, water-cooled screw
chiller. Compared to other typical chillers, the Carrier 23XRV has
15-30 percent better part load efficiency. The Toshiba-Carrier SMMSi is
a first class air-conditioning technology and the most advanced
inverter or variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system for large buildings
that is 30 percent more energy efficient than conventional VRF
inverters.
Indictments widen rifts
After years of waiting, the bombshell dropped on 30 June. Judges
from the Special Tribunal for Lebanon handed over the first indictments
for the cataclysmic 2005 assassination of former prime minister Rafik
Al-Hariri.
It was a sealed, secret file, but within minutes the four names
were leaked to the Lebanese media, and soon confirmed by officials. As
expected for a year now, at least three of the men named are Hizbullah
members. One, Mustafa Badreddin, is believed to be a military commander
and the brother-in-law of Imad Mughniyeh, Hizbullah's strategic
mastermind who was killed in Damascus in 2008. Since Hizbullah far
outguns the army and police force, few in Lebanon expect the men to be
apprehended. Their whereabouts are unknown.
Against expectations, Lebanese streets were calm, even in usual
flashpoints in Beirut and the tense northern city of Tripoli. Hizbullah
has said for a year that it expected its members to be indicted and has
waged a campaign to discredit the court. Its success at stealing the
march on the tribunal was evident -- by the time the indictments
actually happened, they were already old news.
But tensions simmered beneath the surface, and political rifts are
widening, echoing the polarisation that followed the Hariri killing.
